The Canada Disability Benefit payment for August is on its way, and it could put more than $200 into the pockets of eligible Canadians. Service Canada sends this federal support through direct deposit or a mailed cheque. If you already receive the benefit, another payment is coming soon. If you just applied, this could even be your very first deposit.

So, whether you’re expecting your first payment or a regular monthly installment, here’s everything you need to know about the Canada Disability Benefit, including the August payment date.

What Is the Canada Disability Benefit, and Who Qualifies?

The Canada Disability Benefit gives financial support to Canadians with disabilities between the ages of 18 and 64. The federal government created the program to help reduce poverty among working-age people with disabilities. Meanwhile, it works alongside other supports rather than replacing provincial or territorial disability programs.

Not everyone automatically receives this money, though. To qualify, you must meet several requirements set by the government. Specifically, you must:

• be between 18 and 64 years old
• have been approved for the disability tax credit
• have filed your 2025 federal income tax return
• be a Canadian resident for income tax filing purposes
• be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, individual registered or entitled to be registered under the Indian Act, a protected person or a temporary resident who has lived in Canada throughout the previous 18 months

Meeting these requirements does not mean you’re automatically enrolled, however. Instead, you must apply for the Canada Disability Benefit yourself. Once Service Canada approves your application, your payments generally begin the following month.

How Much Money Will You Get, and When?

Your Canada Disability Benefit payment amount depends on a few personal factors. These include your adjusted family net income, your marital status, and whether you or your spouse earn working income. Couples where both partners receive the benefit may also see a different total.

The maximum monthly payment is $204.20. Over a full benefit year, that adds up to $2,450.40 between July 2026 and June 2027. Because the amount varies by household, though, many recipients end up receiving less than the maximum.

Some recently approved applicants can also receive retroactive payments. However, Service Canada will not backdate payments to any period before June 2025, even if you were technically eligible earlier than that.

The next Canada Disability Benefit payment date is Thursday, August 20, 2026. Normally, payments arrive on the third Thursday of each month. Because of how the calendar falls this year, though, this month’s date lands a bit later than usual.

How to Receive and Track Your Payment

You can receive your Canada Disability Benefit payment in one of two ways. Service Canada either deposits the money directly into your bank account, or it mails you a cheque instead. Generally speaking, direct deposit is faster and more reliable than a mailed cheque.

If you would rather switch to direct deposit, you have a couple of options. You can contact Service Canada directly, or you can fill out a direct deposit request form. Afterward, you can mail the form or simply drop it off at a Service Canada office near you.

Not everyone will see a payment land this August, though. If your total benefit amount between July 2026 and June 2027 works out to $240 or less, you may not receive a separate August payment. In that case, your July payment already covered your entire lump sum for the year.
