\u201cThe judges are punished here for an entirely improper purpose, to pressure them to render future decisions more to the administration\u2019s liking,\u201d<\/strong> Goldston said.<\/p>

The lawsuit was filed on June 24 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. At the time of publication, Washington had not submitted its official response.<\/p>

Meanwhile, Prost’s legal team requested a preliminary injunction on July 2. The motion would temporarily suspend the sanctions while the court considers the broader legal challenge.<\/p>

Goldston said the U.S. government has until July 30 to respond. His legal team must then submit its reply by Aug. 20 before the court considers the request.<\/p>

Experts Say Canada Should Publicly Defend Judicial Independence<\/strong><\/h2>
