Both companies have long-standing ties to the Celebration of Light, with Archangel Fireworks historically working alongside international teams competing in the event.<\/p>

Some early beachgoers wondered why the fireworks barge wasn’t visible when they first arrived. Since this was only a one-night show, tugboats towed the barge into English Bay roughly three hours before showtime. Typically, the multi-night Celebration of Light setup relies on temporary pilings driven into the seabed to anchor the barge in place.<\/p>

Because tugboats towed the barge instead, organizers used only half of the usual two-barge length setup. Still, this adjustment didn’t diminish the show’s quality. Instead, it simply meant more pyrotechnics were concentrated onto a single barge length.<\/p>

A Soundtrack Built on Vancouver’s Biggest Moments<\/h2>

The 22-minute show carried a strong theme of civic pride throughout. Organizers built the soundtrack around music from the three largest events Vancouver has hosted over the past 40 years. These included Expo ’86, the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, and the 2026 FIFA World Cup.<\/p>

“This evening’s design is a tribute to the major special events that have shaped our beloved city over the last four decades, and the world-class events that have launched Vancouver onto the global stage,” the announcer told the beach crowd just before the fireworks began. “A powerful reminder that large-scale events like the one you’re at tonight are crucial to the growth, culture, arts, fun, and diversity of our great city. Thank you, Vancouver, and enjoy the show.”<\/p>

Most of the pyromusical soundtrack featured music originally created for the 2010 Olympic Opening Ceremony. These elaborate orchestral compositions set a grand tone for the evening. Alberta composer Dave Pierce, who won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Music Direction for the ceremony, led that original effort. He collaborated with English composer Gavin Greenaway, known internationally for his work on major Hollywood films and long-running Disney theme park fireworks shows.<\/p>

The soundtrack also included an Olympic Opening Ceremony song performed by Vancouver’s own Bryan Adams and Nelly Furtado, composed by Adams himself. Furthermore, listeners heard an epic orchestral rendition of Sarah McLachlan’s “Ordinary Miracle,” which also featured in the ceremony. Even the pre-fireworks Canadian national anthem and countdown drew from Olympic closing ceremony music.<\/p>

Local singer Nancy Nash performed “Something’s Happening Here,” the official Expo ’86 theme song, which also appeared in the lineup. As a nod to Vancouver’s role as a 2026 FIFA World Cup host city, the soundtrack featured the Vancouver version of the FIFA Sound. Vancouver DJ Grayson Repp created this local rendition of the tournament’s theme music. Notably, each of the 16 host cities received its own locally inspired version of the FIFA Sound from a local artist.<\/p>
